Jenka Barakina

1974, Sangar Kobyaysky (Siberia)

Work...

With her unique painting technique – coarse and lively – Jenka Barakina is getting the canvas in motion. Her artistic process is mostly based on live model, which makes her portraits real and natural.

The subject of her artwork is mostly a figurative person – intimate and delicate – as if the spectator would have a personal relationship with the human on the linen.

Barakina’s paintings are often characterized by individuals who feel alone in a crowd. Another recurring topic is the way social media and technology affects our emotional live, not always for the better.

For Jenka Barakina painting is like telling a tale or expressing an emotion.

Every artwork has its own separate story.

It is Jenka’s reality. Try to see it.

About Jenka Barakina

Jenka Barakina grew up in Yakutia in Russian Siberia.

She studied at the famous National Academy of Art in Saint Petersburg. Her education was a mixture of the solid skills of the old Russian masters and the fresh breeze that came from the fast changing Russian society in the post-Perestroika period.

Since 1999 Barakina works in Belgium, where she has her studio.

For several years she exhibits at major international art fairs. She was selected to exhibit in the Arctic Triennial in Yakutia and was finalist of Modportrait in Barcelona.

Her distinctive and inimitable style makes her work highly demanded.
